Every product we create at My Baby Prints is a masterpiece.
That’s not because of what we do – it’s because all of our keepsake items feature your child’s actual hand or footprints!
As it turns out, there are many ways to capture little prints. They may be engraved, sublimated, printed directly to garments, embroidered, or printed using a heat transfer process. We work with artists and printers around the country who use these methods to create unique keepsakes, ranging from very high-end items such as gold jewelry, to very shareable items like sets of Birth Announcements or Vinyl Cling Stickers. One thing remains the same – on all of these products, we will work with you to capture your little “masterpiece” in a lasting keepsake!
Not sure which type of product you would like to create? Here is a bit of background about the processes we use.
Engraving is truly the “forever” option when creating a gift for yourself or someone else. A precise laser engraver etches the surface of materials including wood, stainless steel, precious metals, crystal, and even leather. This process either reveals a lighter color, as with crystal items, or a darker color as with most jewelry, leather and wood items. Metal pieces can also be highly polished, or “aged” to give them a slightly antiqued finish.
The artists we work with each incorporate unique techniques and materials to capture the details of your child’s prints. If desired, they can also incorporate personalized script such as name, date of birth, or a special message. Laser engraving can capture the nuances of handwriting — even a scrap written by a loved one who has passed. In general, engraved jewelry will only include your child’s prints and a short name, date or message. Wood and crystal engravings can incorporate one of our design templates, but they will appear in a single color only.
Direct to Garment and Heat Transfer
Families looking for colorful, wearable, and often less expensive options will want to consider Direct to Garment (DTG) or Heat transfer products. Laser printers are able to capture full color and precise details, even photographs, on clothing items using both processes. DTG printing is done directly on 100% cotton fabrics. Heat Transfer works much like an “iron on” applique, where an image is sealed onto a garment using heat and pressure. Both methods wear well and can be washed.
If your heart is set on a hat, we suggest custom embroidery! Embroidery offers a long-lasting option for clothing items and bags, with bright colors and the silky look and texture of embroidery. Any of our two color designs can be embroidered using your child’s real prints. Embroidery with tiny stitches can capture clear lines and a surprising level of detail, but it will not provide the same detail as DTG, Heat Transfer, or Sublimation.
This term refers to a chemical process that allows us to place your child’s prints on hard items such as mugs, ornaments, mouse pads and tiles. Sublimation produces brightly-colored, detailed images. We start with a white “blank” keepsake, and any white color incorporated in your design is actually the background color showing through. For this reason, it is better to use a color design on your sublimation item rather than a light design on a dark background. On products like phone cases, mouse pads and tins, we offer specific patterned backgrounds that can print all the way to the edge – no need for a lot of white space!
